According to the Wall Street Journal, Gordon Pointe’s current sellers are family members of the late billionaire John Donahue and his wife, Rhodora. According to family legend, Donahue was flying above Naples in the 1980s when he noticed the inhabited island on which the palace now stands – and decided to purchase the property. Surprisingly, he spent only £800,000 in 1985 for the 4.3-acre plot, which had nothing but a fishing hut surrounded by mangroves. Over the years, he continued to purchase adjacent acreage, eventually acquiring over 60 acres in Naples’ private Port Royal community. Now, the late couple’s 13 children and 84 grandkids are selling a chunk of the family’s valued compound, which comprises three homes. “We’ve all enjoyed it, but it’s more or less time to move on,” John and Rhodora’s son, Bill Donahue, told the media outlet. A slew of notable guests have visited the Donahues at their coastal oasis, including former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush. “We nicknamed the room they stayed in the Presidential Suite,” Bill added.
