French Open: World No.1 Iga Swiatek shuts down journalist for 'do you use makeup' question

Poland’s World No.1 Iga Swiatek, on Saturday, won the women’s singles title of the French Open 2022 after beating USA’s Coco Gauff. The 20-year-old player defeated Gauff 6-1, 6-3 at Court Phillippe-Chatrier.

The press conference that took place after the French Open match left World No.1 Iga Swiatek stunned. While she was attending the presser, a journalist asked her, whether she uses ‘make-up’?

The Journalist questioned:

Outside of the court, when you go to a party, do you use make-up? Do you like to go elegant and smart and so on?

He said we have seen many players in the French Open, who spend a lot of time in front of the mirrors; moreover, “they use a lot of make-up before going to court and you seem very natural like this.” After hearing this, Swiatek was left befuddled. However, her reply was very simple and elegant, “OK. Thank you.”

The shocking question led to a heated debate on social media. A user tweeted, “he should be banned from WTA Events.” The Popular tennis broadcaster Catherine Whitaker shared the transcript of the question asked by the journalist on Twitter.

Details of the French Open

This was Swiatek’s 35th successive win. She participated in the French Open as the firm favorite. Moreover, she equaled the legendary Venus Williams’ record of 35 victories in a row. It is also the joint-longest streak by a female tennis player in the 21st century.

She lost only one set at the Roland Garros in 2022 on her way to glory. Swiatek has now won 6 titles in 2022 – The French Open, The Italian Open, Stuttgart Open, Miami Open, Indian Wells Masters, and Qatar Open.
