Viral Turkish shooter joins X, challenges Elon Musk on future of robotics

Yusuf Dikec’s Relaxed Olympic Style and Social Media Engagement Captivate the World

Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish shooter who earned a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has joined the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. Dikec, along with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, secured second place in the mixed team 10-meter air pistol event. His casual demeanor during the competition has since made him a viral sensation.

Unconventional approach goes viral

Dikec’s laid-back style, featuring standard glasses, a T-shirt, and his left hand casually in his pocket, stood out against competitors using specialized equipment like headphones and special lenses. This unconventional approach has not only drawn attention but also comparisons to James Bond, with social media users dubbing him “The name’s Dikec. Yusuf Dikec.”

Interaction with Elon Musk

Upon joining X, Dikec directed one of his first posts to Elon Musk. Sharing a now-famous photo from the Olympic event, he asked, “Hi Elon, do you think future robots can win medals at the Olympics with their hands in their pockets? How about discussing this in Istanbul, the cultural capital that unites continents? @elonmusk.”

Musk responded, “Robots will hit the center of the bullseye every time.”

Amid the attention on Dikec, some have called for equal recognition of his partner, Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, who also adopted a casual hand-in-pocket stance during the competition, albeit with headphones and a visor. Despite the internet frenzy, Dikec remains unfazed by his viral status, continuing to capture the world’s admiration with his unique style and approach.
