Facebook Ads

Facebook’s targeted ads and ad banners are some of the most annoying things ever. However, Facebook earns revenue from them. Hence, the social media giant does not want to allow users to remove them. Every time you press like on a post featuring a product or page, the platform can use this information, along with your profile picture and name to display ‘tailored’ or ‘targeted’ ads. Moreover, you and your friends are on the receiving end. Using personal information to target the audience is a privacy concern. Moreover, third parties can use Facebook to promote their products through Facebook ads. This is exactly why ads for products you googled appear on your feed.

How can you remove Facebook ads?

You cannot completely opt-out of Facebook ads. However, you can choose to opt-out of the ads based on how you browse the web. Here’s how you can do this.

First, log in to your Facebook account and click the three dots to go to the Settings tab. Then go to the Profile and tagging settings.

Next, click on Ads to see Ad preferences. There are three categories- Advertisers, Ad settings, and Ad topics.

Click on the advertisers‘ tab to see the list of companies that are targetting their ads to you. You can now choose the ads you wish to hide. To do this, click on Hide Ads.

Click on Ad Topics and then Show Fewer next to specific categories to see a lower number of ads in the categories you wish.

Lastly, Ad Settings will show you ads based on your personal information. You can also toggle settings like use data from partners or data about activity from partners. This option will let you choose the information you wish to share.
