Prince William set to participate in first public engagement following Kate Middleton's cancer announcement

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, is expected to return to his royal responsibilities and carry out his first public engagement since his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, disclosed last month that she has been diagnosed with cancer.

According to media sources, Prince William is scheduled to tour Surrey and West London on Thursday, April 18. Citing a statement from Kensington Palace, NBC News reported that Prince William is scheduled to visit west London and the neighboring county of Surrey “to highlight the work of community and environmental impact organizations in the area.” Additionally, he would also visit a food redistribution charity and a youth center, as media reports have stated.

Prince William was seen making his first public appearance by attending a football match between Aston Villa and Lille

It was previously reported that Prince William would likely resume his public responsibilities once his children return to school. On April 12, Prince William was seen making his first public appearance by attending a football match between Aston Villa and Lille alongside his son, Prince George. The 41-year-old future British monarch was photographed smiling and applauding with his 10-year-old son George as Aston Villa secured a 2-1 victory in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final.

Meanwhile, William and Kate opted not to attend the Easter Sunday service hosted by King Charles, nor did they participate in the customary gathering with other members of the royal family in Windsor. Instead, they chose to spend Easter with their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Kate publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis through a video message on March 22. She received the diagnosis following an abdominal surgery in January, though the cancer is reportedly unrelated to the surgery. The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed, but she mentioned in the message that she is undergoing “preventive” chemotherapy. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” the 42-year old Princess said. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment,” she said in the video.
