The steel sculpture, titled R-Evolution, depicts a nude woman standing in a powerful stance, arms outstretched. Created by artist Marco Cochrane, the 32,000-pound figure was originally unveiled at Nevada’s Burning Man festival in 2015 and was designed to represent strength through vulnerability and the reclamation of female agency.

Much of the backlash centres not only on the statue’s content but also on the process by which it appeared in Civic Centre Plaza. Reports suggest the installation was made without formal public consultation—a move many argue undermines transparency and community engagement.
