According to reports from Yonhap, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan. The reports from the South Korean news agency cited the Republic of Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. Despite stating that North Korea launched an unidentified missile, the South Korean military did not provide additional details.

Additionally, the Japanese government cautioned the projectile by North Korea to be a ballistic missile. The Japanese Coast Guard also issued cautions to ships that are in conjunction with the test’s probable trajectory. However, the landing location of the weapon is unclear.

Are negotiation meetings back on track?

Currently, nuclear talks between Pyongyang and Washington are deadlocked for over two years. The differences about exchanging the removal of damaging US-led embargoes on North Korea in dialogue for the North’s de-escalation measures. So far, the government is refusing the Biden administration’s approaches to restart talks without preconditions. Moreover, they also demand that Washington must abandon the ‘hostile’ policy. To North Korea, the joint military drills and sanctions between South Korea in the US are highly hostile.
