Bashar al-Assad's wife, Asma, 'severely ill' with cancer, has 50 percent survival chance: Report

Asma al-Assad, the wife of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, is reportedly in critical condition, with doctors placing her survival chances at 50-50. According to a report in The Telegraph, strict medical protocols have been enforced to minimize the risk of infection, isolating Asma from visitors entirely.

Sources revealed that Asma has been battling acute myeloid leukemia, a severe and aggressive form of blood and bone marrow cancer. Diagnosed earlier this year, her condition deteriorated months after she and her husband sought asylum in Moscow, Russia.

The disease marks a resurgence of health issues for Asma, who had previously overcome breast cancer in 2019, as announced by Syria’s presidency at the time.

Family support amid the health struggle

Asma’s father, Fawaz Akhras, has reportedly been at her side in Moscow, described by close family contacts as “heartbroken.” A source directly involved with the family told The Telegraph, “Asma is dying. She can’t be in the same room with anyone because of her condition.” Another insider added, “When leukemia comes back, it’s vicious. She has been 50/50 in the last few weeks.”

Divorce and Kremlin denial

Amid swirling rumors, Turkish media claimed that Asma had filed for divorce and was seeking to leave Russia. However, the Kremlin swiftly dismissed these allegations, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov categorically rejecting reports that Asma had requested separation or that Assad’s property assets had been frozen in Moscow.

Despite the denials, the Assad family remains in the spotlight as the Syrian regime’s controversial legacy continues to cast a shadow over their asylum in Russia.
