Authorities launch probe into shocking delivery in West Godavari district
A woman in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district in India experienced a horrifying ordeal when she opened a parcel expecting household appliances, only to find a decomposing body and a ransom note demanding ₹1.3 crore (USD 0.15 million).
Shocking discovery amid house construction
The woman, identified as Naga Tulsi, had been constructing a house on government-sanctioned land and had sought financial assistance from the Kshatriya Seva Samithi, a local charitable organization. Initially, the group provided construction materials, including tiles. Tulsi later requested support for electrical appliances, receiving confirmation via WhatsApp that lights, fans, and switches would be sent.
On the evening of December 19, a delivery person handed her a package, claiming it contained the promised appliances. Upon opening it, she discovered the decaying body of an unidentified man and a letter threatening severe consequences unless ₹1.3 crore was paid. It remains unclear if the ransom demand was directed at Tulsi or someone else in her family.
Immediate police response
West Godavari Superintendent of Police Nayeem Asmi and a team of officers quickly responded to the incident. The body was sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggest the man had been dead for four to five days.
Authorities are working to identify the deceased, ascertain the cause of death, and determine how the body ended up in the package. Representatives of the Kshatriya Seva Samithi have also been called in for questioning as part of the investigation.
