A nine-year-old student from Chennai has completed Cambridge IGCSE examinations, reaching an academic milestone typically associated with students several years older.
Krishna Sayee, currently studying Cambridge International AS Level at The Lords’ International School in Chennai, took the IGCSE examinations while still in the 4th standard.
His achievement has drawn attention not only because of his age, but also because of the speed at which he progressed through an advanced academic curriculum.
Who is Krishna Sayee?
Krishna’s interest in mathematics and physics reportedly emerged when he was around three years old.
His family and mentors encouraged him to pursue subjects well beyond his usual school level. His grandmother, Usharani Govindarajan, encouraged him to formally document his learning and consider appearing for the IGCSE examinations early.
Family friend Srikanth Sreedharan also supported his preparation and continued to mentor him through the process.
Which Cambridge exams did he take?
Krishna appeared as a private candidate in the March 2026 Cambridge IGCSE examination series at the age of nine years and two months.
He secured A grades in mathematics and physics. During the May 2026 examination series, he took additional examinations in chemistry, English and environmental management.
Results released in August confirmed that he had passed all of the subjects he attempted, according to the details provided by his school and family.
The result is particularly notable because Cambridge IGCSE is generally completed by students around the age of 16, although the examination system does permit candidates to enter independently rather than only through conventional school progression.
From advanced mathematics to AI and technology
Krishna’s interests extend beyond examinations.
At six, he reportedly delivered a presentation titled “AI Revolution: OpenAI and ChatGPT Leading the Way” at a national technology seminar hosted by Shrimathi Devkunvar Nanalal Bhatt Vaishnav College for Women in Chennai in March 2023.
He later presented “From Manuscripts to Microchips: The Legacy of Indian Knowledge Systems” at Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women in February 2025.
His mathematical work and other interests have also been documented through his personal YouTube channel.
What makes his achievement unusual?
The striking element is not simply that Krishna passed a school-leaving-level examination at nine.
It is the unusually compressed timeline. While most students move through school grades sequentially, he studied material substantially ahead of his age group and sat for internationally recognized examinations while still in primary school.
His performance also shows that advanced examination entry can be separated from a student’s conventional school grade. Cambridge IGCSE assessments are subject-based, meaning candidates can take individual subjects rather than necessarily following the entire qualification at the standard age.

With his IGCSE subjects completed, Krishna has moved on to Cambridge International AS Level studies.
The next stage is likely to involve more specialized and demanding coursework, particularly in areas connected to his longstanding interests in mathematics and science.
