Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh: Following the tragic boiler explosion at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Sri City that claimed five lives, Tablets (India) Limited has issued a formal statement clearing the air about its alleged involvement. The company clarified that it has absolutely no connection, common ownership, or management ties with TIL Healthcare Private Limited, the facility where the disaster occurred.
The clarification was necessitated after initial reports and official district administration statements mistakenly linked the Sri City unit to “Tablets India Limited,” causing widespread confusion in the pharmaceutical industry.
Why the Identity Confusion Occurred
The misunderstanding primarily stemmed from the striking similarity in the corporate names. Early media dispatches and district-level updates erroneously referred to the blast site as a “Tablets India” or “Tablets India Limited Healthcare” facility.
To set the record straight, Tablets (India) Limited categorically stated:
- No Sri City Presence: The company does not operate any factory or manufacturing facility within the Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
- Distinct Entities: Tablets (India) Limited and TIL Healthcare Private Limited are completely separate, independent corporate entities.
- No Shared Management: There is no common ownership, shared board, or management overlap between the two pharmaceutical organizations.
While issuing the correction to prevent further brand misrepresentation, Tablets (India) also extended its condolences to the families of the workers who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Tragic Morning at TIL Healthcare
The devastating incident took place around 8:30 AM on Saturday, October 3, during a shift change at the TIL Healthcare Private Limited manufacturing plant in Sri City, Tirupati district.
- Casualties: Five workers were killed, and over 10 others sustained severe injuries. While four died on the spot, one critically injured worker succumbed to injuries after being shifted to a Chennai hospital for advanced medical care.
- The Blast: Preliminary reports indicate a catastrophic failure of a water boiler. Early theories suggest water deprivation inside the machinery may have triggered the explosion, though this is pending formal verification.
- Emergency Response: Fire and rescue personnel quickly arrived to control the situation and shift the injured to nearby hospitals.
Government Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Andhra Pradesh government has launched a high-level inquiry into the industrial disaster. Authorities are actively conducting safety audits to determine whether the explosion was the result of mechanical failure, human error, or severe safety lapses. As part of the preliminary administrative response, a local boiler inspector has reportedly been suspended.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and Home Minister V. Anitha expressed profound shock over the incident. The state administration has directed officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the survivors and promised comprehensive financial and administrative support for the bereaved families.
