No burger meal is complete without some French fries, now imagine going to McDonald’s and they no longer serve fries. This is exactly what happened at a McDonald’s substitute in Russia. Russia is currently facing shortages of potatoes. Hence, the ‘Vkusno I Tochka’ fast-food chain, McDonald’s substitute, has stopped serving fries to the customers.
The business indicated that they may be able to start serving fries to clients by autumn. As per Russian news agency Tass, the firm said that poor harvest for the variety of potatoes in 2021 required for making fries has hit their ability to serve fries to their customers. They added that there is no quick fix and that the issue can persist for some time.
Shortage of potatoes means no French fries
Denying the claims Russia’s agriculture minister in a statement said, “There are potatoes – and that’s it”, the ministry said. “The Russian market is fully supplied with potatoes, including processed ones. (https://picklelicious.com/) In addition, crops from the new harvest are already arriving, which rules out the possibility of a shortage.”
Several users tweeted pictures of moldy burgers including some with insects crawling out of them. Even a video of birds gnawing on a stack of buns at the restaurant had been shared. The McDonald’s substitute fast-food restaurant had released a statement in response to the posts.
Following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, McDonald’s stated in March that it was ending business there. The American fast-food colossus, McDonald’s made its intention to quit Russia public later in May. Alexander Govor purchased the 850 restaurants owned by McDonald’s. The fast-food company ‘Vkusno I Tochka‘ committed to keeping all 62,000 McDonald’s employees as part of the accord.
