Two-year-old becomes the youngest member of Mensa
A two-year-old girl is now officially the youngest member of Mensa, a high IQ club. Isla McNabb, like any other two-year-old loves running, and playing with her cat and toys. However, her parents were quick to notice something different with their little girl.
“She just had an affinity for the alphabet. Then she started sounding out the different letters, then we started with some simple words and she sounded them out,” said Jason McNabb, her father.
Soon, she started reading. Fascinated by the child’s ability, her psychiatrist suggested getting her an IQ test. Shockingly, she tested in the 99th percentile for her age group.
“Dr. Amend was saying typically these kids will have asynchronized development so they might be far ahead, really advanced in one category, and might be fairly normal or on par or maybe lag in some other categories. She scored superior in everything and very superior in the knowledge category, so it shocked us. We didn’t expect that,” stated her father.
What’s next in store for the gifted girl?
Following the impressive scores, the two-year-old was invited to become a part of the Mensa.
“We reached out to them and they confirmed that she was the youngest member,” added her father.” She can read over 500 words, we’ve honestly stopped counting!” said Amanda, her mother.
“We can’t say ‘let’s go to the P-A-R-K’ or anything because she can just sound it out! We’re hoping that she can have some friends, and go to conventions, they have scholarships! So all of that would be great” she added.
“She led us down a very interesting path, but we just let her take the reins and see where it goes from there. Hopefully, it will lead to a scholarship—maybe Harvard or MIT one day,” added her father. They believe that Isla will skip kindergarten but, they’re letting her learn and figure things out at her own pace.
