Satellite images show 35% of Gaza’s buildings destroyed: UN

Israel’s offensive in the Palestinian has destroyed or damaged 35% of the Gaza Strip’s buildings. Israel’s assault started in response to Hamas militant attacks in southern Israel on October 7, has killed almost 32,000 Palestinians, according to health officials in Hamas-controlled territories. Approximately 1,200 people were killed during the Hamas raid on Israel. The United Nations Satellite Centre, UNOSAT, assessed using high-resolution satellite photos gathered on February 29 and compared them to images taken before and after the recent battle.

35% of all buildings in the Gaza Strip (88,868) have been damaged or destroyed

It was discovered that 35% of all buildings in the Gaza Strip (88,868 buildings) have been damaged or destroyed. It found 31,198 structures destroyed, 16,908 severely damaged, and 40,762 moderately damaged. This marks an almost 20,000 increase in damaged structures compared to the last assessment, which was based on photos collected in January and revealed that 30% of all buildings had been damaged or destroyed, UNOSAT stated.

“The governorates of Khan Younis and Gaza have experienced the most significant rise in damage, with Khan Yunis seeing 12,279 additional damaged structures and Gaza experiencing 2,010,” UNOSAT said in a statement. “Khan Younis City has been hit particularly hard, with 6,663 newly destroyed structures.”
