Afghanistan: Taliban orders beheadings for shop mannequins

According to reports, the Taliban ordered a series of mannequin beheadings. Thereby, identifying the heads of the dummies as “idols” prohibited by Islam.

The Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice ordered shopkeepers in the western Afghan province of Herat to remove the heads of female mannequins this week, according to The Times.

Those who disobey the order would face harsh consequences, according to the ministry’s local department.

According to MailOnline, ministers feared that people were worshipping the mannequins as gods. The Quran considers idolatry to be an irreparable sin. Thus, the Taliban orders mannequin beheadings.

The director of the local ministry told the Aghan media site Raha Press that merely glancing at the face of a female mannequin is against Sharia law.

According to MailOnline, an early order asked for the total removal of mannequins. But a compromise was reached that only required the heads to be removed.

Raha Press says shops in Herat are in great dismay by the beheading order, citing the high cost of mannequins. According to the news outlet, mannequins may likewise cost up to $200 each. Thus, ripping their heads off is a “great loss” for him.

After the fall of Kabul in September, the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice was re-established in Afghanistan. The all-male ministry replaced the previous Ministry of Women Affairs. (Xanax) Thus, reigniting fears that the Taliban’s moral police would annihilate women’s rights in Afghanistan.

According to Sky News, the ministry advised taxi drivers not to transport women on long excursions unless they are accompanied by a male chaperone.
