Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s memoir, Nobody’s Girl, has become a major publishing success, selling more than one million copies worldwide within two months of its release, according to publisher Alfred A. Knopf.
The posthumous book, co-written with author and journalist Amy Wallace, was released in early October and has seen especially strong demand in North America. More than half of total sales came from the region, with the United States accounting for the largest share.
The publisher said the book has already gone into its 10th U.S. printing, following an initial run of 70,000 copies, an unusually rapid pace for a nonfiction memoir dealing with allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking.
What Is Nobody’s Girl About?
Nobody’s Girl chronicles Giuffre’s life, focusing on her experiences as a survivor of sexual exploitation connected to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in a federal jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
Giuffre was one of Epstein’s most prominent accusers and spent years publicly advocating for accountability, drawing international attention to the case and its powerful connections.
The memoir revisits her allegations against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former British prince, whom she accused of having sex with her when she was 17. Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied the claims.
Renewed Scrutiny and Calls for Transparency
The book’s release has reignited public scrutiny of the Epstein case and renewed calls for greater transparency from U.S. authorities.
Advocacy groups and legal commentators have urged the Justice Department to release additional files related to Epstein’s network, arguing that unanswered questions remain about who may have been protected or overlooked during earlier investigations.
The renewed attention comes years after Epstein’s death halted criminal proceedings against him, leaving many survivors without what they see as full accountability.
Royal Fallout Linked to the Memoir
The memoir’s publication also coincided with renewed consequences for Mountbatten-Windsor in the UK.
Following the resurfacing of allegations, King Charles III stripped him of his remaining royal titles and removed him from his royal residence, according to reports. Buckingham Palace has not explicitly linked the actions to the memoir.
Mountbatten-Windsor stepped back from royal duties after a widely criticized BBC interview in November 2019, during which he attempted to rebut Giuffre’s claims. In 2022, he reached a multi-million-dollar out-of-court settlement with Giuffre after she filed a civil lawsuit in New York. The settlement included no admission of liability.
Family Reaction: Pride and Grief
Giuffre’s family has described the memoir’s success as both meaningful and painful.
In a statement, her family said they are enormously proud of her courage and the impact her story continues to have, while expressing sorrow that she was not alive to witness the book’s reception.
In her absence, our family remains committed to ensuring her voice is everlasting, the statement said.
Disappointment Over Criminal Investigation Outcome
This week, Giuffre’s family also expressed deep disappointment after the Metropolitan Police in the UK announced it would not pursue a criminal investigation into Mountbatten-Windsor over the allegations.
British authorities said they had reviewed the available material and determined that it did not meet the threshold for further action, a decision that has drawn criticism from survivor advocacy groups.
Giuffre’s Death and Legacy
Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025, according to her family. Her death has added another layer of gravity to the memoir’s success, with supporters framing the book as both a personal testimony and a broader indictment of systems that failed to protect vulnerable individuals.
With sales continuing to climb, Nobody’s Girl has become one of the most widely read survivor memoirs connected to the Epstein scandal, ensuring that Giuffre’s allegations, advocacy, and voice remain part of the public record.
