Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a woman who dangerously trespassed into a Siberian tiger’s enclosure at the Cohanzick Zoo, narrowly avoiding a potentially deadly encounter. The incident, which occurred last week, has sparked widespread concern and led to charges against the individual involved.
Zoo visitor arrested for defiant trespassing into a tiger’s enclosure
Zyair Dennis, 24, has been charged with defiant trespassing and violating two city ordinances after she climbed a fence at the Cohanzick Zoo and inserted her hand into the tiger’s enclosure. Bridgeton Police announced the arrest on Monday, following the release of shocking footage that captured the incident on August 18.
In the video, Dennis is seen approaching the tiger’s enclosure and extending her hand toward the massive cat. After what appears to be a curious sniff, the tiger lunges at her, attempting to bite her hand. Dennis quickly pulls her hand back but astonishingly extends it once more before finally retreating and hopping back over the fence.
Additional stunt with a bear
Police revealed that Dennis allegedly attempted a similar act with a bear in an adjacent enclosure on the same day. Authorities had previously released the footage in an effort to locate the trespasser, urging anyone with information to submit an anonymous tip through their website.
Dennis is scheduled to appear in Bridgeton Municipal Court on a date yet to be determined. The incident has raised significant concerns about public safety and the importance of adhering to zoo regulations designed to protect both visitors and animals.
