Ohio man stabs mother to death after being denied overnight stay at family home

Ohio man charged with murder after fatal stabbing of mother, critical injury of father

A 40-year-old man from Ohio has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault after a violent altercation with his parents that left his mother dead and his father critically injured. The incident occurred when Kenneth Mortimer’s mother informed him that he couldn’t stay overnight at their home, sparking an argument that tragically escalated.

Details of the incident

The attack took place around 4 p.m. on Friday at a residence in the 3300 block of Palmhill Lane in Green Township, according to local authorities. The dispute began when Kenneth’s 74-year-old mother, Barbara Mortimer, told him he could not stay the night at their family home. The argument quickly became physical, and Barbara urged her husband, Thomas, to call 911.

In a chilling turn of events, Kenneth retrieved a knife from the kitchen and attacked his parents as they sat on the couch. Despite her injuries, Barbara attempted to escape but was overpowered by Kenneth, who dragged her back into the house. Kenneth fled the scene after the attack but was soon apprehended by responding police officers. Barbara succumbed to her injuries, while Thomas Mortimer remains in serious condition at the hospital.

Kenneth Mortimer reportedly confessed to officers that he had stabbed both of his parents. A Hamilton County judge has set his bail at $2 million.

Similar incident in Indiana

This case follows a similar tragedy last month in Indiana, where a 20-year-old man was charged with strangling his mother to death after she asked him to clean his room and find a full-time job. The accused, Connor Kobold, a student at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, called 911 multiple times on February 5, reporting a dead person in his home in Valparaiso. Upon the police’s arrival, Kobold surrendered, asking to be handcuffed, and allegedly confessed to the crime, stating, “There is a dead person inside of the house on the corner” and “I killed somebody in that house,” according to local reports.
