Veteran diplomats told to step down as Trump ushers in new era

“It is entirely appropriate for the transition to seek officials who share President Trump’s vision for putting our nation and America’s working men and women first,” a spokesperson for Trump’s transition team told The Washington Post. “We have a lot of failures to fix, and that requires a committed team focused on the same goals.”
Standard protocol or political reset?
While requesting the resignations of top officials is standard practice during presidential transitions, the scope and timing of these changes signal a deliberate effort by the Trump administration to realign U.S. foreign policy. Historically, some presidents have chosen to retain career diplomats until replacements are confirmed. Trump’s approach, however, reflects a desire for swift and decisive change.
“It’s not personal,” said a diplomat who was asked to step down. “They want to have people in place whom they’ve worked with before who are known quantities.”
Reports from Fox News suggest that Trump plans to hire approximately 20 senior officials to fill the vacated roles. Many of these appointees have previously served in the State Department or the National Security Council during Trump’s first term in office.
