A survivor’s voice echoes beyond her passing

Washington, D.C. — Days after Virginia Giuffre, a prominent accuser of Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew, took her own life on April 25, 2025, her family has released a poignant handwritten note she left behind.

The 41-year-old, who alleged she was trafficked and sexually assaulted as a teenager, called for unity among families to fight for victims’ safety and justice. The note, shared by her sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, underscores Giuffre’s enduring commitment to survivors of sexual violence, even in her final moments.

Giuffre’s allegations against Epstein, a disgraced financier, and Prince Andrew, a British royal, placed her at the center of a high-profile legal and public battle. Her death in Western Australia has reignited conversations about the toll of sexual abuse and the urgent need for systemic change. Here are key insights into Giuffre’s final message and its broader implications.

A rallying cry for collective action

Demanding justice for victims

In her handwritten note, discovered among her personal belongings, Virginia urged families to stand together against child abuse and sexual violence. “We are not going to go away. Mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers need to show the battlelines are drawn and we stand together to fight for the future of victims,” she wrote. The note, as reported by The New York Post, reflects her resolve to amplify survivors’ voices.

Giuffre also pondered the path forward, writing, “Is protesting the answer? I don’t know, but we’ve got to start somewhere.” According to Roberts, the note was likely intended for a protest held outside the White House on April 30, 2025, which aimed to support survivors of sexual violence.

Roberts shared the note on Facebook, emphasizing its significance: “Hello world, we received news today that there’s a protest in DC. We found a handwritten note that our sister Virginia wrote. I think it’s important that the survivors know that she’s with you and her voice will not be silenced. I know that it’s important, and her wish is that we continue to fight.”

A life marked by trauma and advocacy

From victim to vocal advocate

Giuffre’s allegations against Epstein and Prince Andrew were seismic. She claimed Epstein used her as a “sex slave” and that, at 17, she was coerced into sexual encounters with Prince Andrew after being introduced through Epstein. These accusations, which Prince Andrew denied, culminated in a multimillion-dollar settlement in 2022 to avoid a trial. Epstein, awaiting trial for sexual offenses, died by suicide in a New York City jail cell in 2019.

Giuffre’s family confirmed her death in a statement to AFP, saying, “It is with utterly broken hearts that we announce that Virginia passed away last night at her farm in Western Australia. She lost her life to suicide after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking.” Her death has cast a spotlight on the profound psychological impact of prolonged trauma and the challenges survivors face in seeking justice.

A legacy of resilience and urgency

The fight continues

Giuffre’s final note serves as both a testament to her resilience and a call to action. By sharing her words, her family hopes to honor her legacy and galvanize efforts to protect and empower survivors. The White House protest, aligned with her message, underscores a growing movement to address sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable.

Moving forward: Honoring Giuffre’s call

Virginia Giuffre’s death is a tragic loss, but her final message amplifies the urgency of combating sexual violence. Her life, marked by courage and advocacy, challenges society to confront systemic failures and prioritize survivors’ voices. As protests and conversations continue, Giuffre’s handwritten note stands as a powerful symbol of resistance and hope for a future where justice prevails.
