On Thursday (Feb 15), a shooting at Kansas City’s Union Station killed one person and injured 22 others during a celebratory rally following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph in the United States. Police quickly apprehended three people in connection with the crime.
Police confirmed that two children were among those apprehended, but the suspects’ identities have yet to be published.

Patterns of misinformation
The mistaken link of a Muslim-sounding name and misleading claims of illegal immigration with recent crimes is a common occurrence on social media sites.
Similar cases of misinformation about the name “Sahil Omar” have surfaced in connection with earlier unconnected catastrophes, such as the Sandman Hotel explosion in Fort Worth, Texas, and other tragedies, aiming to falsely implicate immigrants in criminal activities, according to a compilation done by news agency AFP.
The context for the shooting event
Authorities decided that the shooting at the Super Bowl triumph rally, which killed one person and injured many others, including children, was the result of a personal quarrel.
Stacey Graves, Chief of Police in Kansas City, informed reporters that the incident had nothing to do with terrorism or homegrown violent extremism and that it was the result of a disagreement between individuals that escalated into gunshots.
Law enforcement is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the goal of determining the entire extent of those detained’s involvement. Chief Graves acknowledged the discovery of multiple firearms from the scene and informed the public that efforts are underway to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
