Thieves in Ohio looted a 58-foot high bridge a month ago

We’ve seen thieves steal money, luggage, jewelry, and other stuff but can you imagine someone stealing a bridge? Not just any bridge, a 58-foot high bridge. However, in a rather weird incident in Ohio, thieves looted a 58-foot high bridge a month ago. As result cops in Ohio are perplexed by the theft of an entire bridge.

The pedestrian bridge once crossed the Cuyahoga River in a city park, but it had been removed as part of a wetlands restoration project and stored in a nearby field. Unfortunately, it drew the interest of someone who stole its deck boards before returning the rest of the structure. Leaving police to astound as to why anyone would loot an entire bridge and what they would do with it. Officials say they “have not heard of anything that large stolen” ever in their careers.

The thieves will be unable to recycle or sell the polymer-based material used in the bridge

Speaking to News 5, Cleveland, Lt Michael Miller informed, “I have certainly not heard of anything that large albeit it disassembled but actually stolen, I can’t think of anything comparable in my 22 years [at the Akron Police Department]. We know it will be met with mystery and questions: who and how and why? All of those are unanswered. It ranks high on the list of mysteries, that’s for sure. “Essentially the bridge is made of some sort of polymer. It’s connected by some bolts. If you have any equipment, sockets, and things of that nature, it wouldn’t have been very difficult at all to begin the process of disassembling that. It’s described as a big Lego-like device.”

According to the police, the thieves certainly will be unable to recycle or sell the polymer-based material used in the bridge. It is worthless to a scrapper or recycler. The bridge robbery cost the city around $40,000, and police are hoping that members of the local community will come forward with information about the thieves. The news of a stolen bridge sparked laughter on social media. “Only in Akron can you steal an entire bridge and get away with it,” one user said. “Someone has stolen an entire bridge,” said another. What plans do they have for that bridge? “What was the end goal?”
