Trader Joe’s recalls thousands of sparkling water bottles over glass hazard

Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for 61,500 bottles of its Gerolsteiner Sparkling Natural Mineral Water over concerns that the glass may shatter, potentially posing a safety risk to consumers.

The recall affects 750 mL bottles of the imported German product, which retails for approximately $3. The company’s news release stated, “Certain lot codes may have the potential for cracked/damaged bottles.” The impacted lot codes include 2024/28/11 24 2027/19/12 and 024/271/11 24 2027/18/12. “The issue was identified by research related to bottle breakage during production and potentially affects 1% of bottles in the lot codes above,” the company explained.

Affected states and refund policy

The recalled bottles were sold between December 27, 2024, and January 28, 2025, across 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

Despite the recall, no customers have reported injuries or damage linked to the affected bottles, Trader Joe’s confirmed. The company has advised customers to refrain from using the bottles and either dispose of them or return them to any Trader Joe’s location for a full refund.

Previous recalls raise safety concerns

This recall follows another recent Trader Joe’s product withdrawal. Last month, the company pulled its Organic Acai Bowls from shelves due to concerns that the product may contain plastic fragments. Customers were advised to discard or return the product for a full refund.

“Out of an abundance of caution, please discard any Trader Joe’s Organic Acai Bowls, as the product may contain foreign material (plastic), or return them to your neighborhood Trader Joe’s store for a full refund,” the company stated.

Unlike the sparkling water recall, Trader Joe’s did not specify lot numbers or production dates for the affected Acai Bowls.

Coffee creamer recall adds to growing list of product withdrawals

In a separate recall earlier this week, coffee creamer brand International Delight removed more than 75,000 bottles from the market following reports of “spoilage and illness.” Parent company Danone initially issued a voluntary recall on February 21, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later upgraded it to a Class II recall, the agency’s second-highest risk level.

According to the FDA, a Class II recall means that exposure to the product may “cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

The recall specifically impacts 32-ounce bottles of Hazelnut creamer and 32-ounce bottles of Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll creamer, totaling 75,054 bottles. The affected products have expiration dates of July 2, 2025, and July 3, 2025, with a producing plant code of 51-4114 R-S.

Shipments of the recalled creamers were distributed to 31 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

The back-to-back recalls underscore the importance of food and beverage safety, with major retailers and manufacturers facing increasing scrutiny over potential risks to consumers.
