Britain’s ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, was abruptly dismissed on Thursday after newly revealed emails shed light on his close relationship with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Public anger escalated earlier this week when US lawmakers released Epstein’s notorious “birthday book, ”a directory of his contacts. The book included a handwritten note from Mandelson describing Epstein as “my best pal.”
Although Starmer initially defended Mandelson in Parliament on Wednesday, saying he retained “full confidence” in his envoy, his position unraveled within hours as Bloomberg published the damaging emails.
