A chilling video has emerged showing a train violently shaking at a Bangkok metro station as a powerful earthquake struck on Friday. The tremor, measuring 7.7 in magnitude with an epicenter in Myanmar, sent passengers into panic, forcing them to flee as the floor trembled beneath them.
Earthquake and aftershock cause widespread fear
The initial 7.7-magnitude quake was followed by a 6.8 aftershock, intensifying fears among commuters. The seven-second clip, shared on social media platform X, captures the chaos as passengers cling to each other while the train sways on the tracks.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed that the earthquake struck at 12:50 p.m. (local time), with its epicenter located 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Skyscraper collapses in Bangkok amid tremors
In another shocking development, a video surfaced showing an under-construction skyscraper in Bangkok collapsing within seconds. The massive structure, which was nearing completion, crumbled into rubble as dust and debris engulfed the surrounding area, leaving onlookers in shock.
Widespread impact felt across the region
The US Geological Survey and Germany’s GFZ Centre for Geosciences reported that the earthquake struck Bangkok at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. Preliminary reports from AFP indicate that the tremor’s epicenter was in neighboring Myanmar.
Tremors were also felt in China’s southwestern Yunnan province, where Beijing’s earthquake agency measured the jolt at 7.9 in magnitude. In Myanmar, the impact was severe, leading to the collapse of the historic Ava Bridge following a 7.2-magnitude aftershock.
