Xi Jinping likely to meet Putin later this year in Moscow: Report

According to the Wall Street Journal, Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Moscow for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. China hoped to play a more active role in ending the year-long conflict through the summit, according to the report. According to the article, it is also part of a drive for multi-party peace negotiations. China is also anticipated to raise the subject of nuclear weapons and their use in any situation.

While the timetable for Xi’s visit is still being finalized, the Wall Street Journal stated that he will likely visit Moscow in April or early May, when Russia celebrates its World War II victory.

Xi and Putin last met in China before the Beijing Winter Olympics last year. During that meeting, the two countries announced a “no limits” partnership.

Meanwhile, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, is in Moscow, meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday. His visit is also intended at resolving the Ukraine conflict through a peaceful settlement. On February 24, the war will observe its one-year anniversary.

He said relations with Russia were “solid as a rock”, after a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Tuesday. Wang stated on Russia TV that relations between the two countries were “solid as a rock” and would withstand the trials of a changing worldwide climate.

Wang stated China sought to “promote mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas”.

China intends to reveal details of a peace plan to settle the Ukraine conflict

As a former Chinese ambassador in Washington, DC, Wang Yi has the diplomatic distinction of being Beijing’s man in the corridors of power in the United States. Wang Yi is the current director of the Central Foreign Affairs Committee, one of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) entities in charge of the execution of Beijing’s foreign policy. While he is not the foreign minister, China’s foreign policy is currently being developed under Wang Yi’s leadership of the CCP’s Central Foreign Affairs Committee.
