Prince Harry’s memoir, which has been the subject of a worldwide obsession since it was initially announced last year, will be released on January 10.

“For Harry, this is his story at last”

The book will be called “Spare” and is being billed by Penguin Random House as an account told with “raw, unflinching honesty” and filled with ”insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.”

Penguin Random House recalled the shocking death of Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, in 1997 and the accompanying picture of Harry and his brother “going behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror” in a statement released on Thursday.

“As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling — and how their lives would play out from that point on,” the statement reads in part. “For Harry, this is his story at last.”

The title of the memoir by Harry appears to refer to “the heir and the spare”

The title of the memoir appears to refer to “the heir and the spare,” a term frequently used to refer to royal siblings. William, Harry’s brother and current Prince of Wales, is the rightful successor to the British throne. Harry was immediately after William in the line of succession when he was born, but he has since been demoted. Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last month, their father, King Charles III, ascended to the throne.

Since the book’s initial announcement in July 2021, royal watchers and the general public have constantly conjectured. After being announced on Thursday, “Spare” quickly rose to the top 10 on Amazon.com’s bestseller list.

When Oprah Winfrey interviewed the Duke of Sussex and his American-born wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, for a shocking March 2021 broadcast, he already demonstrated a news-making openness to divulge his personal life. The couple discussed Harry’s worry that his wife’s life may be in danger if they stayed in his nation, as well as Meghan’s great discontent with her new life in England, as well as the alleged bigotry within the royal family.

Background

Diana and author Andrew Morton collaborated on the explosive memoir “Diana: Her True Story” in 1992, in which she extensively discussed her troubled marriage to the future King Charles III.

In 2020, Harry and Meghan resigned from their royal duties and relocated to the United States. Harry revealed to Winfrey that he was financially abandoned by his family and that he used money left to him by his mother to assist pay for his security. They have started many projects, such as the nonprofit Archewell Foundation and a Netflix production contract.
