Wonder Woman in all her Desi-ness

“Beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules, Princess Diana of Themyscira fights for peace in Man’s World.” That’s how DC Comics describes Wonder Woman.

She is the epitome of truth and the strength a woman beholds in a man’s world. Gal Gadot fits into the role of Wonder Woman like it was made just for her. Over the years, Gal and Wonder Woman became a role model for women – to be invulnerable and mark their spot in the so-called man’s world.

And to think DC’s Wonder Woman could come in a desi avatar – how bizarre! But that’s something many artists on Instagram were up to this week!

Movies Now, on their Instagram page, had recently announced an exciting contest. This creative contest called the artists to draw Wonder Woman, but with an Indian twist. The contest, called #IndianWonderWoman, was announced in a bid to encourage more Indian viewers to catch the telecast of DC’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’.

The contest got numerous entries including an entry from Samar (@metrodoodle), popular for his creative and out-of-the-box doodles on the Delhi metro. He said, “The light of truth shines brighter than darkness this Diwali. Asserting dominance over all evil, presenting our very own Indian Wonder Woman”. [Source: Instagram]

Another participant, Sketchy Sultan (@SketchySultan) depicted the Indian Wonder Woman as a superhero cricketer. He said, “Be it knocking down the enemies wicket or celebrating the audience applause when she wards off evil opposition. Our Indian Wonder Woman is indeed an all-rounder here”. [Source: Instagram]

Shailly Gajjar (@shaillygajjar), another popular illustrator depicting Wonder Woman as an Indian Goddess said, “The gracious and all-powerful Wonder Woman beaming like a multi-faceted Indian Goddess. She truly can achieve all that she sets her sights on.”
