A drone carrying guns from the U.S. crashes into tree in Canada

A drone transporting handguns into Canada from the United States was intercepted after colliding with a tree. The drone was smuggling handguns into Canada from the US. Canadian authorities were able to apprehend the pilot after the drone crossed the border, carrying over a dozen firearms.

Officers from the Southern Ontario Provincial Police reacted when residents in the town of Port Lambton, northeast of Detroit, reported seeing an unknown individual maneuvering a commercial drone around the area, The drone’s pilot lost grip of the aircraft. This resulted in bringing it staggering into a nearby tree before mounting a waiting vehicle with his passengers. According to officials, the drone was carrying a shopping bag with metal carabiners and electrical tape.

“Our neighbor had spotted someone in our yard in the middle of the night and he had a remote control,” Christine Ackwood of CTV News said. He wasn’t sure what was going on.

The majority of the handguns in the bag were illegal in Canada

The officers recovered 11 pistols inside, the majority of which were illegal in Canada. The serial number on a black handgun appears to have been sandblasted out in one of the photographs shared by authorities. They believe the drone crossed the St Clair River. It separates Canada and the United States, on its way east from Michigan. However, authorities have no idea about the drone or who the nefarious cargo was for.

Many handguns used to commit crimes in Canada are smuggled into the country from the United States. Moreover, in the past, smugglers have used transport trucks, passenger vehicles, and aircraft to evade authorities. The use of a drone suggests groups could be trying out new strategies, but it is unclear if Friday’s discovery is the first time when there was a drone involved. However, there has been no statement by the Ontario provincial police service yet.
