Adidas to begin selling a $1 billion stockpile of Yeezy sneakers

Adidas revealed on Friday that it would shortly start selling the leftover Yeezy trainers, which are valued at more than $1 billion. It’s true what you just read! So you’ll just have to wait till the end of this month if you want to get your hands on a pair. The Anti-Defamation League, which combats antisemitism and other forms of discrimination, and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, which is run by social justice activist and George Floyd’s brother Philonise Floyd, will each receive a portion of the proceeds, according to the German sportswear giant.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to begin releasing some of the remaining Adidas Yeezy products,” said Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden in a statement. “Selling and donating was the preferred option among all organizations and stakeholders we spoke to. There is no place in sport or society for hate of any kind and we remain committed to fighting against it.”

Customers have not been able to purchase Yeezy products since Adidas ended its association with Ye

Customers have not been able to purchase Yeezy products since Adidas ended its association with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, in October 2022 as a result of his anti-Semitic remarks on social media and in interviews. The brand will refill the Yeezy line for the first time since the tragedy. Adidas stated in a statement that things would begin to be offered on its website on May 31.

These items will include both current designs and items that will be available for purchase this year but were planned for 2022. Gulden stated at Adidas’ annual shareholder’s meeting earlier this month that the business spent months looking for alternatives before opting against destroying the products and instead choosing to sell them in order to raise money for various charities who were hurt by what Ye said. The company announced on Friday that the change will not immediately affect its current financial outlook for 2023.
