Pro-Palestinian protesters shut down Golden Gate Bridge

Protesters are causing massive traffic disruptions across the Bay Area, especially in Oakland and on the Golden Gate Bridge, as part of a worldwide economic blockade in solidarity with Palestine.

The first protest Monday morning came on northbound I-880 in Oakland at 5th Ave., where protesters hauled barrels filled with concrete onto the highway and shackled themselves to the barrels.

Police arrested some protestors on the Golden Gate Bridge

Law officers had to cut through the barrels before they could arrest the protesters. Only one lane has been opened.

The second demonstration followed, with demonstrators blocking all southbound lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is now backed up for miles into Marin. Police began arresting protestors on the Golden Gate Bridge at 10:30 a.m.

These actions are part of A15, a worldwide economic blockade in solidarity with Palestine

Southbound I-880 is also closed as hundreds of protesters made their way onto the highway with banners. This is at 7th St. in West Oakland. The CHP said only one individual has been arrested so far.

Organizers say these actions are part of A15, a worldwide economic blockade in solidarity with Palestine and asking for an arms embargo and an end to US taxpayer financing for Israel. Monday is the tax deadline for most Americans.

The Oakland Economic Blockade Against Palestinian Genocide says they are protesting alongside 56 cities throughout the world.

Protests have halted traffic in other major cities Monday morning, including Chicago at O’Hare Airport.
