Truck Driver Hid $8m Worth of Cocaine in Kim Kardashian's Underwear Shipment

A shipment of shapewear from Kim Kardashian’s Skims turned into an international drug bust after UK authorities discovered nearly $8 million worth of cocaine hidden inside a truck transporting the clothing from the Netherlands.

British officials say the shipment itself was legitimate. The drugs were not.

The case ended Monday when Polish truck driver Jakub Jan Konkel was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to smuggling cocaine into the United Kingdom.

How cocaine was discovered

The incident unfolded last September at the Port of Harwich in Essex.

What border officials found

According to the UK’s National Crime Agency and Border Force officers:

  • The truck carried 28 pallets of Skims underwear and clothing
  • X-ray scans revealed suspicious modifications in the trailer doors
  • Officers uncovered 90 hidden packages of cocaine
  • Each package reportedly contained one kilogram of the drug

Authorities estimated the street value at more than $8 million.

Where the drugs were hidden

Investigators say the cocaine was concealed inside specially modified compartments built into the rear trailer doors.

That detail mattered because:

  • The commercial clothing shipment itself was legitimate
  • The importer and exporter were reportedly unaware of the smuggling operation
  • The drugs had allegedly been added separately during transit

What investigators say happened

According to authorities, Konkel:

  • Picked up the cocaine during a brief stop en route
  • Failed to declare the stop during questioning
  • Initially denied knowledge of the drugs
  • Later pleaded guilty to smuggling charges

The 16-minute stop that raised suspicion

Investigators reviewed the truck’s tachograph, the electronic device used to track driving activity and stops.

The records reportedly revealed:

  • A 16-minute stop not disclosed during interviews
  • Evidence suggesting the cocaine was loaded separately during the journey

Authorities say Konkel later admitted he agreed to transport the drugs for €4,500.

Why do smugglers use legitimate commercial shipments

The case highlights a common tactic in international narcotics trafficking:
Hiding illegal cargo inside perfectly legal supply chains.

Why fashion shipments can be attractive targets

Commercial shipments:

  • Move constantly across borders
  • Often contain large volumes of boxed goods
  • Blend into regular logistics traffic
  • Can make inspections more difficult

Criminal groups frequently exploit:

  • Clothing deliveries
  • Food shipments
  • Electronics cargo
  • Industrial transport routes

The goal is simple: disappear inside the noise of global commerce.

In this case, a celebrity-linked brand created eye-catching headlines, but investigators emphasized there is no indication Skims or its business partners were involved.

What UK officials said about the seizure

Jason Thorn praised the interception, saying it deprived criminal organizations of millions in potential profits.

British authorities say the seizure:

  • Prevented large quantities of cocaine from entering UK distribution networks
  • Disrupted organized crime activity
  • Demonstrated the effectiveness of cargo screening systems

Why ports remain major trafficking hotspots

Ports like Harwich process:

  • Massive freight volumes
  • International cargo shipments
  • Cross-border trucking traffic

That makes them critical checkpoints for:

  • Drug interdiction
  • Smuggling investigations
  • Customs enforcement

Modern trafficking operations increasingly rely on sophisticated concealment methods, forcing border agencies to depend heavily on:

  • X-ray scanning
  • Intelligence sharing
  • Cargo analysis
  • Electronic tracking systems

Why the story exploded online

The case quickly gained viral attention because it combined:

  • Celebrity branding
  • International drug trafficking
  • Hidden compartments
  • A multimillion-dollar cocaine seizure

The phrase “cocaine hidden in Kim Kardashian underwear shipment” practically arrived pre-packaged for internet headlines.

But beneath the click-worthy framing sits a much larger issue:
Global supply chains are now central battlegrounds in international organized crime enforcement.

The bigger picture: cocaine trafficking into Europe

Europe continues to face rising cocaine trafficking volumes, with criminal groups using:

  • Shipping containers
  • Freight trucks
  • Commercial imports
  • Maritime logistics routes

Law enforcement agencies across Europe have warned that:

  • Cocaine availability remains high
  • Smuggling networks are becoming more sophisticated
  • Criminal groups increasingly infiltrate legitimate logistics channels

The UK, Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain remain major pressure points in that trade due to their large ports and transport infrastructure.

TL;DR

  • UK authorities found nearly $8 million worth of cocaine hidden inside a legitimate Skims clothing shipment
  • Polish truck driver Jakub Jan Konkel was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison
  • The cocaine was concealed in modified compartments inside the truck’s trailer doors
  • Investigators say the drugs were added during a brief stop en route from the Netherlands
  • Authorities stressed that Skims and the shipment’s businesses were not involved in the smuggling operation
