Shopify, a Canadian e-commerce startup, is attempting to give its staff calendars that are less full of meetings as they begin the new year.

According to a Shopify announcement, any recurrent meetings with more than two participants would be cancelled. Additionally, a regulation prohibiting any meeting on Wednesdays is being reinstated. According to Shopify’s most recent policies, large meetings with more than 50 participants can only be held on Thursdays during a six-hour window.
In a memo to employees, which was seen by CNN, Shopify COO Kaz Nejatian said the decision to cancel meetings was taken to free up employee time. “To start 2023, we’re cancelling all Shopify meetings with more than two people. Let’s give people back their maker time. Companies are for builders. Not managers,” he wrote on Twitter.
