Biopic to chronicle the life and struggles of Mark Kerr
Dwayne Johnson looks almost unrecognizable in the newly revealed first poster for The Smashing Machine, the upcoming sports biopic based on the life of wrestler-turned-MMA fighter Mark Kerr.
The film will trace Kerr’s journey from his early days through his battles with addiction, culminating in his eventual rise to become a world champion.
A powerful story directed by Benny Safdie
Directed by Benny Safdie, known for acclaimed films such as Heaven Knows What (2014), Good Time (2017), and Uncut Gems (2019), The Smashing Machine promises a raw and gripping portrayal of Kerr’s turbulent life.
The project was officially announced in December 2023, with principal photography beginning in May 2024.
Dwayne Johnson on embracing the challenge
In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson spoke about his motivation for taking on the demanding role. “I wanted more, I wanted a challenge, and I wanted the opportunity to disappear into something and disappear into a part and a role that would challenge me in ways that I’ve never been challenged before,” Johnson said.
A star-studded cast joins the project
The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Emily Blunt, Lyndsey Gavin, Oleksandr Usyk, Bas Rutten, Ryan Bader, Satoshi Ishii, and James Moontasri.
The Smashing Machine is set for release on October 3, 2025.
