‘Happy to Be Alive’: Wildlife Influencer The Real Tarzann Injured in Skydiving Accident

Popular wildlife influencer Mike Holston, widely known online as The Real Tarzann, is recovering after suffering serious injuries in a skydiving accident, an incident he says left him “pretty banged up” but grateful to be alive.

The social media star, who boasts more than 16 million followers on Instagram and 1.3 million subscribers on YouTube, shared the update with fans on Saturday, posting a photo from a hospital gurney. In the image, Holston can be seen wearing a neck brace, with his right leg heavily bandaged following the fall.

What Happened to The Real Tarzann?

Holston revealed that the accident occurred during a skydiving session, though he stopped short of sharing specific details about what went wrong.

“Yesterday I had a skydiving 🪂 accident. I’ll probably be out for a few weeks,” he wrote.
“I’m pretty banged up at the moment, in some pretty good pain, but just happy to be alive.”

In follow-up Instagram Stories, Holston described the aftermath as intense and frightening.

“I was f–ked up for like three hours. I couldn’t even breathe. My chest was killing me,” he said.

Despite the severity of the incident, the influencer maintained an optimistic tone, telling fans he expects to recover and return to content creation once healed.

‘Just a Small Mistake,’ Says Holston

While many followers pressed for details, Holston said the accident came down to “a small mistake” — something he described as part of the risks that come with extreme sports.

“All is good! If I wasn’t too banged up, I’d gear up and go again,” he wrote.
“Just a small user error, but I’m stoked to get back to it in no time.”

In another update, he reassured fans that his injuries were not life-threatening.

“Thank God all is well. They didn’t get me off this Earth today. Nothing to worry about.”

Fans React as Influencer Eyes a Comeback

While the injuries may temporarily sideline him, Holston made it clear he has no plans to slow down long-term.

“I know a lot of y’all want to see me down,” he wrote, “but don’t count on it too long.”

Supporters flooded his posts with messages wishing him a speedy recovery, while others expressed concern over the high-risk nature of his content — a recurring theme surrounding his online career.

A History of Controversial Stunts

Holston has built his massive following through adrenaline-fueled wildlife encounters and extreme outdoor challenges. However, his content has not been without controversy.

He previously faced backlash after posting viral clips from Australia that showed him:

  • Chasing a freshwater crocodile
  • Wrestling a juvenile saltwater crocodile
  • Jumping into water to confront wildlife at close range

The footage sparked outrage from conservation groups, including Community Representation of Crocodiles (CROC), which labeled the behavior “illegal” and “dangerous.”

The backlash escalated when Bob Irwin, father of the late Steve Irwin, criticized the influencer’s actions, warning that such stunts encourage reckless behavior and endanger both humans and animals.

“These posts can have disastrous consequences,” Irwin reportedly said, adding that social media often glorifies harmful interactions with wildlife.

Holston later defended himself, claiming the animals were unharmed and that he never encouraged followers to replicate his actions.

A Pattern of Risk and a Moment of Reckoning

The skydiving accident has reignited debate about the risks influencers take in pursuit of viral content. While Holston insists the incident was a manageable mistake, critics argue it highlights a broader issue in the creator economy — where dangerous stunts can bring views, but also serious consequences.

Still, Holston remains defiant.

“Just another rough day in the office,” he told fans. “Hopefully we’ll see you soon.”

What’s Next for The Real Tarzann?

For now, Holston says he’s focused on recovery and will share a full breakdown of the accident once he’s physically able. Whether the incident leads to a shift in the type of content he produces remains to be seen.

What’s certain is this:
The influencer’s near-miss has once again put a spotlight on the fine line between adventure and danger — and how quickly that line can be crossed.
