1. Fusion Reactor Design Accelerated Tenfold

After decades of slow progress, scientists cracked a 70-year-old fusion engineering challenge. Physicists from the University of Texas at Austin, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Type One Energy developed a symmetry-based mathematical shortcut that dramatically improves the design of stellarator fusion reactors.

The new approach allows researchers to create leak-proof magnetic confinement systems nearly 10 times faster than traditional numerical methods—without compromising accuracy. Crucially, the results were reproduced across 13 independent experiments, addressing skepticism that plagued earlier claims. While the extreme pressure limits real-world use for now, the discovery provides a critical proof of principle for future ambient-pressure superconductors.

3. CERN Successfully Turns Lead Into Gold, Scientifically
