President Suggests Spectacle to Celebrate Nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026
Washington, D.C. – President Donald Trump floated an unusual idea during a rally in Iowa on Thursday: hosting a UFC fight on the White House grounds in front of 20,000 to 25,000 spectators as part of the celebrations marking 250 years of American independence in 2026.
“Think of this on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there,” Trump told the crowd, adding that it would be a “full fight.”
Trump’s Vision for America 250: Parks, Parades—and MMA
The Iowa speech marked the official kickoff of year-long festivities leading up to July 4, 2026, which Trump referred to as a “massive celebration” of the nation’s founding.
In addition to the proposed UFC match, Trump outlined plans for:
- A major festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
- Special events at every national park, battlefield, and historic site
- A nationwide high school athletic competition
“So every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250,” he said. “And I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight.”
UFC Enthusiast with Presidential Connections
Trump, a longtime supporter of mixed martial arts, is known to have close ties with UFC President Dana White, who has publicly endorsed Trump on multiple occasions. The former president has attended several high-profile UFC events in recent months, often receiving standing ovations and prime cage-side seats.
Most notably, Trump appeared at a championship bout shortly after his 2024 reelection and made headlines again by attending another UFC event last month alongside White.
White House Responds: “Dead Serious”
While a White House spokesperson initially declined to provide additional details, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed Trump’s commitment to the idea.
“The president is dead serious about those plans,” Leavitt told reporters.
The logistics, feasibility, and security implications of holding a large-scale combat sports event on the White House lawn remain unclear. However, Trump’s bold proposal adds another layer of spectacle to what he envisions as a historic and unifying celebration of America’s founding.
